Hello, Tanglers! 🎉
It's Week 35 of the Tangletastic Challenge✨
This week, we are playing with fragments. In Zentangle, a fragment is a small shape/mini design. You can repeat, rotate, flip or connect small shapes to create a full design. In tangling, we often use a grid (aka reticulum), which we fill with fragments.
AI's definition:
"Fragment = the small motif or starting shape
Tangle = the finished pattern created from it
Fragments are a great way to simplify patterns and create your own unique variations".
Let's keep it simple.
After drawing your dots and borders, lightly divide your tile with a pencil horizontally and vertically to create a four-square grid. Then choose a fragment, have a play, and see what you create.
I'm keeping things simple here - Fragments can be circular, square, or triangular, and can also be stretched from those shapes into all sorts of irregular shapes.
This is the fragment, E4.

The following example uses the fragment E4.

If you'd like to learn more, check out my Fragment Fusions workshop, where I take you through the process step by step to help you create some beautiful patterns. I'm also running a Tiny Tangles workshop live on Monday, 1st June.
You'll see samples from Chris (Govan) & Pauline Herbert below:

Over to you!
Remember, the Tangletastic Challenge isn't a 'challenge' per se. It's meant to be a fun tangling 'challenge' to help you develop your Zentangle tiles, so don't overthink it. It's all about playing. Your tiles can be as simple as a 2" x 2" square.
Once you've created your tile, please share it in the Tangletastic group and then add it to the relevant album in the group (our Tangle Gallery)
I can’t wait to see your tiles sparkle in the Tangle Gallery! 🌀👑
✨ Remember to stick to 'The Rules' ✨
Tangle to the weekly prompt.
Share your creation in my Tangletastic Facebook Group, and in the Tangle Gallery under the relevant prompt.
Share it on Instagram using #TangletasticChallenge and #Ruby2Shoes, and remember to tag me @ruby2shoesdesign. 📸💖 Sharing on Facebook works too! 🌀👑 Link to my Tangletastic group - http://bit.ly/Tangletastic
💬 Share the Love: Comment on at least three other posts each week. This isn’t a competition. Every tangle is magical! See someone’s post without a comment? Please leave a little sparkle for them.
🌟 NB. ✨ While I’ll be cheering you all on, I won’t be commenting on every single post personally: The magic of this challenge is in us supporting one another as a community. 💖 I've been trying to keep up, but I know I've still missed a few people, so the more it grows, the harder it will be.
💌 Don't know what this is all about?! Full details here.
Come and join my Tangletastic group so you can join in.
Let’s do this together! 🎉👠✨
PS. I’d love to keep in touch. Pop your email here for pattern ideas, creative prompts, tiny mindset shifts, workshop updates and the occasional step-by-step tangle you can draw straight away.
PPS. Did you know ... I've written a book!! It's a fabulous little book you can pop in your bag, ready to tangle at a moment's notice. Check it out here.
