The Tangletastic Challenge Wk 40 | Zentangle Colour Splash - Ocean Blues

Tangletastic Challenge cover image

Hello, Tanglers! 🎉

It's Week 40 of the Tangletastic Challenge✨

This week, the inspiration is ocean blues. Come and join us, bringing in blues and aqua shades inspired by sea and sky. Any tangles go, happy playing!

Here are samples from Pauline (Herbert) & Chris (Govan):

Sea themed Zentangle by Pauline Herbert. Ole Ole by Reyes Galindo
Pauline said she used a Sakura Koi watercolour brush pen and an Ecoline blue ink for the background. For the tangle colouring, she used Polychromos Black (She said she never uses black, normally) and Helioblue reddish 151. Highlights with white gellyroll and Printemps by Zentangle added using her Emott pens, which she got for Christmas. She thought she would share all the blues that went into its creation. The tangle is ‘Ole-Ole’ by Reyes Galindo.
A sea-inspired Zentangle tile by Chris Govan.
Chris used loads of sea-inspired tangles: Oysteroid by Jody Genovese, Ur-Chen by Tricia Long, Stikz by Laurel Sponseller, Squid by Zentangle, Indy-Rella by Zentangle, Arium by Hiroko Matsuo, Coral Seeds by Suzanne McNeill, Preejou by Preeti Gupta, Fiesta by Lindy Clarkson, Snake Egg by Sandy Robertson, Flattery by Cheryl Lees-Hayley, Zefirki by Alena Light, Wist by Shelly Beauch and Pea-Fea by Amelie Liao. Phew! What a fabulous library of sea tangles for you to look up!

Enjoyed the fragment challenge recently? Check out my Fragment Fusions workshop, where I take you through the process of reticula and fragments step by step to help you create some amazing patterns.

Over to you!

Remember, the Tangletastic Challenge isn't a 'challenge' per se. It's meant to be a fun tangling 'challenge' to help you develop your Zentangle tiles, so don't overthink it. It's all about playing. Your tiles can be as simple as a 2" x 2" square.

Once you've created your tile, please share it in the Tangletastic group and then add it to the relevant album in the group (our Tangle Gallery)

I can’t wait to see your tiles sparkle in the Tangle Gallery! 🌀👑

✨ Remember to stick to 'The Rules' ✨

  1. Tangle to the weekly prompt.

  2. Share your creation in my Tangletastic Facebook Group, and in the Tangle Gallery under the relevant prompt.

  3. Share it on Instagram using #TangletasticChallenge and #Ruby2Shoes, and remember to tag me @ruby2shoesdesign. 📸💖 Sharing on Facebook works too! 🌀👑 Link to my Tangletastic group - http://bit.ly/Tangletastic

  4. 💬 Share the Love: Comment on at least three other posts each week. This isn’t a competition. Every tangle is magical! See someone’s post without a comment? Please leave a little sparkle for them.

🌟 NB. While I’ll be cheering you all on, I won’t be commenting on every single post personally: The magic of this challenge is in us supporting one another as a community. 💖 I've been trying to keep up, but I know I've still missed a few people, so the more it grows, the harder it will be.

💌 Don't know what this is all about?! Full details here.

Come and join my Tangletastic group so you can join in.

Let’s do this together! 🎉👠✨

PS. I’d love to keep in touch. Pop your email here for pattern ideas, creative prompts, tiny mindset shifts, workshop updates and the occasional step-by-step tangle you can draw straight away.

PPS. Did you know ... I've written a book!! It's a fabulous little book you can pop in your bag, ready to tangle at a moment's notice. Check it out here.
